The first of the buds are appearing on the trees here in Seattle and with a happy sun shining, it made for a perfect day for an engagement session with a couple sooo in love! I had a great time with Elena and Eric- they are totally into each other and have so much fun together. They’re one of the lucky few who can say they’ve known each other since way back in high school, and much to the chagrin of many a high school boy, I’m sure, the rest is history and they are tying the knot this summer. Congrats, you two!

Baby Jamieson | Seattle Newborn Photography

It wasn’t all that long ago that I was photographing little Jamieson while still a bump in his mommy’s belly. As cute as that belly was, I have to say I think Jamieson’s cuteness trumps all. Just nine days old, he was alert and taking in everything during part of the session and sleeping sound the rest. Between new mom and dad, and grandmother who flew in just in time for his birth, Jamieson is one loved lil guy!

A few years back, I took a doula course (for more information on what a doula is, please click HERE), and I was absolutely fascinated by the class discussions and lectures, a rather more grown up and less first-hand version of an interest in pregnancy than stuffing a pillow up my shirt, as mentioned in a previous post. Ursula invited me to be her photographer and doula for her second birth. It was my first time witnessing a new little life being born, and it was such a privilege to be there to support her and her family and to tell her birth story in photos. You did such a great job, Ursula; I’m so proud of you! Thank you for allowing me to share these images.

It’s no secret I love puppies. Ask my boyfriend Jake, and he’ll tell you that I exclaim, “I want a puppy!” no fewer than 10 times a week. By the way, I call ALL dogs puppies, even if they’re old enough to have gray fur on their snouts. Oscar the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is a people-loving, squirming, licking-every-face-that’s-close-enough, growling-at-nothing-in-particular, with a face that’s impossible not to love, kind of dog that feels tortured when forced to be more than 10 feet away from his people. During the maternity session with Jackie and Justin, he whined and whimpered until we included him. Given that he’s so dang cute, who could deny him that?! Photographing puppies is just so fun!

I think women with pregnant bellies are just the cutest ever. Even though they may feel as big as a whale, they have the most beautiful glow and the best curves holding the most precious of treasures. I’ve always thought so; when I was a little girl, I’d play pregnant by stuffing a pillow up my shirt and waddle around the house. Peculiar childhood games aside, it was my privilege to hang out with Jackie and Justin for an afternoon and capture their relationship and her super cute belly before she’s able to enjoy tying her own shoes again. Congrats you two!!

With the unusual abundance of that bright orange ball in the sky in the recent past, Amanda and her kids and I set out for the park to get some fun-in-the-winter-sun shots. I’m such a wimp now when it comes to the cold but we stayed plenty warm running around and by the time the cold finally did soak in, we trooped on over to the warmth of a nearby coffee shop. Check out the cuties!

Nicole + Trent | Gold Coast, Australia Wedding

I was so excited to be invited to Australia to photograph Nicole and Trent’s wedding day! It was my first time Down Under and so I jumped at the chance to escape Seattle for some sunshine on Australia’s Gold Coast. They rented this great holiday house which made for a perfect intimate setting on their wedding day and place to hang out by the pool in the days before the big day. They are great friends and it was a wonderful time spent with them.

Mmmm Wine | Napa and Sonoma Valleys

Elongated rays of sunlight, the scent of fermenting grapes, the cool draftiness of a wine cave in contrast to the warmth outside, the feeling of walking in a time long past… What’s not to love about California wine country?! If you ever go yourself, here’s a little hint: spend more time in Sonoma than in Napa. Don’t get me wrong, Napa’s worth seeing, but think Disneyland versus the streets of San Francisco. Both have character and their place in the world, but if you want the real down-to-earth deal and a personable feel, go spend some good days in Sonoma.

Can you blame me for going a lil over-board on my friend the sun- I do live in Seattle after all!

The Big Apple as My Playground
