Sunday Afternoon Nap

Posted in Portraits

This has been a super busy “off” season for me as I get ready for all the awesome things coming up this year! I have a feeling it’s going to be the best year ever. But there’s always time for a Sunday nap…

This isn’t turning into a puppy blog, I promise! I’m such a homebody in the winter and since I simply have to scratch the itch of photographing for my own personal pleasure as well as for my awesome clients, what’s hanging around my home gets to put up with my shutter happy self. ;)

Zoë loves Jake and I love how these images show that. Of the thousands of photos I’ve taken of her (and you were thinking I posted a lot of puppy pictures, pfffft – shows what you know!), these are some of my top faves.

All three of us were actually taking a snoozer on the couch (not much room on there for me, was there?!) and I couldn’t resist risking the beautiful moment to capture a few frames. I can’t believe she slept on top of him like that for so long!

Zoë hasn’t been with us for that long, but already I can’t imagine life without her. Jake thinks I’m so weird when I start to think about this and then start to tear up at the thought of her leaving us. “That’s a long ways away, we just got her,” he says. Men, how logical and void of emotion they can be. You never know what each day may bring, good or bad, and nothing in life is guaranteed. So while I’ll do everything I can to help her live to a super happy old age (I’m thinking 20 or 25! Hey, it’s possible.), you just never know.

But then there’s that sign on a closed (as in folded) business I drove by on Roosevelt the other day that said “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” I like that. And I like all the photos I’ll always have to help me remember, no matter what happens.

Matt and Amy are a fun fun couple! They met on a beautiful sunny day in Maine and Amy caught Matt’s eye with her tenacity in learning to surf in the freezing water. They love doing anything if it means they are together but top of their list are traveling and exploring the beauty of a foreign city, reading the Sunday newspaper over a cup of coffee (it’s likely that Matt roasted the beans himself!), and hiking anything from volcanoes to rain forests. They have such a love for each other that can only add to their capacity to love the friends and family around them.

It’ll be my honor to be their to capture their wedding day memories at Seattle’s Lake Union Cafe later this month! Can’t wait!

Matt has inspired Jake and I to start roasting our own coffee using the very same air popper my family used to pop popcorn while watching super 8 home movies on the wall when I was a kid. We quickly upgraded and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a fancy new drum roaster. I love DIY stuff!

With the end of daylight savings, there’s no doubt fall is in full swing on towards winter. This fun summer session makes me smile with its glowy sunshine, playfulness, and warm mother/daughter moments. I love that they chose to begin the session in the library. It makes me think of how much I enjoyed reading with my mom when I was little and how she would read me the same book over and over and over at my request no matter that she could probably recite it by heart. :)

Fun With Bubbles!

What could be more fun than a late summer afternoon at Alki Beach blowing bubbles with the ones you love the most?! These kids know how to rock it and we had a blast. I love the cozy quilt spread out on the grass and the giggles that erupted when bubbles landed on the girls. It’s so much fun to set the stage with something the kids love to do, let the moments happen as they will, and watch how their personalities shine.

How’s that for the next installment of Aston’s first year?! Just when you thought he couldn’t get any cuter, he went and did it. I just love all the smiles and with all the wide-eyed curiosity one minute and eyes squeezed so tightly the next with cuddly intensity. What a sweet, sweet family!

Check out his bump and newborn sessions!

This is Lucas. He was so excited to show me his tree climbing skills- isn’t he great?!

The last time I climbed a tree (it was more of a large shrub really- apparently I wasn’t very adventurous back then), I was rewarded with seeing three tiny eggshell blue robin’s eggs perched in the most perfect little nest. It was amazing, especially in the eyes of an eight year old. I still love the first sight of a robin at the beginning of spring!

When’s the last time you climbed a tree?

Isn’t that little mouth just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?!

Carrying on a family tradition in naming him, his parents were inspired by the model name of a car. How fun is that!

I so enjoyed meeting little Aston- congratulations to Lotus and Peter!  And Happy New Year to all!

Lotus and Peter braved the chilly Seattle afternoon with me this past weekend for a super fun bump session! I just love these images!

Being from Hawaii, they really wanted some images that said SEATTLE to their family back home so we met at the Olympic Sculpture park for some waterfront sculpture-y action. They also wanted to add some fun to the mix and since Lotus LOVES cookies (I mean, really, I couldn’t agree more!), we then made our way to Cow Chip Cookies in Pioneer Square for a yummy snack. I love the look of that shop and have always wanted to take some portraits there. Perfect!

Lotus and Peter are expecting their first lil bebe in December and I took such a liking to them when we met for our consult, I was THRILLED when they booked four sessions for their baby’s first year. I have a feeling we’ll have a grand old time together making images that will help them remember that precious first year. They are such a sweet couple and are so good to each other; I just know they will make wonderful parents too!

Nicole first contacted me about an Oplove homecoming session and we were both excited about being there to see Michael come home from his deployment (granted, she was infinitely more excited than me!).  Then, as often happens with the military, dates changed and it didn’t end up working out, so I was especially excited to get to meet the two of them after all when Nicole contacted me for an engagement session.

We braved the rain on Saturday and as you can see, all the wetness paid off with all the fun and super cute color-saturated images we created!

Yesi | Guadalajara, Mexico

Posted in Portraits

She’s from Mexico, I’m from the US, but it wasn’t until we were both living in Amsterdam that Yesi and I crossed paths. We really didn’t get to know each other until we took a spur of the moment weekend trip to Paris where we developed ties that would last a lifetime.

That weekend, we also learned (the hard way) EurRail is far superior to Eurobus, Nutella banana crepes are quite possibly the world’s best street food, and the Eiffel tower is the best place to just happen run into someone you know but the worst place to meet if you are actually trying to find each other (crazy story- ask me sometime!).

Yes, this is the randomness called my life, and I love it! But it’s also really hard since it means that some of my dearest friends are scattered around the globe.

Yesi’s beautiful, graceful, and is one of the deepest, most thoughtful people I know. She’s an amazing personal shopper, fashion designer, and has a killer fashion sense and quite the artistic eye that well lends her to photography as well (see diptych below).

Yesi-2.jpg diptych-Yesi.jpg

I’ll never win a most graceful contest, but I do have fun with the best of them!

Stacy + Andrew Engaged! | Seattle Engagement Photography

Posted in Couples, Portraits

We lucked out with this session landing on one of the first feels-like-summer days in Seattle this June.  It’s a good thing, too, since I was starting to think winter would melt right back into fall and we’d miss summer altogether!

Stacy and Andrew are a great couple and to top it off, she proposed to him!  How cool!  I just love her no-nonsense, down-to-earth approach to life that is balanced just-so with his I’ll-snuggle-with-you-in-public-no-matter-who’s-looking take on their relationship.  They have great senses of humor and I just can’t wait for their wedding in October.  It’s going to be a blast!

They brought along their very photogenic canine Vincent to add to the fun of their session.  Any dog who’s people love him so much that they treat him to doggie ice cream is a lucky dog indeed!  Now on to a sneak peek at their engagement session before I wear out the hyphen key on my keyboard.

After a tasty cuppa joe waiting for the rain to let up, we braved the chilly May day to grab some publicity head shots for James’ new business (more on that later). I couldn’t resist some couple shots afterwards with his lovely wife Krysta in her stylin’ new coat. Thanks for a fun time, you two!

Harry + Stefanie | Seattle Portraits

Posted in Couples, Portraits

Harry and Stefanie are a Swiss couple I met through a mutual friend last fall and I’m so glad I did! Stefanie and I have been able to meet regularly for coffee and help get each other through Seattle winter as well as ringing in the New Year together.

In Europe, it’s standard for resumes to include a head shot, and they asked me to help them get some creative shots to help them stand out and get new jobs once they go back to Switzerland. It just so happened to be their second wedding anniversary that day, and we couldn’t resist these fun shots as well! Oh, Stefanie makes super cute kids clothing- check out Stefanie’s website here.

Elena + Eric | Seattle Engagement Photography

Posted in Couples, Portraits

The first of the buds are appearing on the trees here in Seattle and with a happy sun shining, it made for a perfect day for an engagement session with a couple sooo in love! I had a great time with Elena and Eric- they are totally into each other and have so much fun together. They’re one of the lucky few who can say they’ve known each other since way back in high school, and much to the chagrin of many a high school boy, I’m sure, the rest is history and they are tying the knot this summer. Congrats, you two!

Baby Jamieson | Seattle Newborn Photography

It wasn’t all that long ago that I was photographing little Jamieson while still a bump in his mommy’s belly. As cute as that belly was, I have to say I think Jamieson’s cuteness trumps all. Just nine days old, he was alert and taking in everything during part of the session and sleeping sound the rest. Between new mom and dad, and grandmother who flew in just in time for his birth, Jamieson is one loved lil guy!

Jackie + Justin’s Baby Bump | Maternity Portrait Shoot, Seattle WA

Posted in Bumps and Babies, Portraits

I think women with pregnant bellies are just the cutest ever. Even though they may feel as big as a whale, they have the most beautiful glow and the best curves holding the most precious of treasures. I’ve always thought so; when I was a little girl, I’d play pregnant by stuffing a pillow up my shirt and waddle around the house. Peculiar childhood games aside, it was my privilege to hang out with Jackie and Justin for an afternoon and capture their relationship and her super cute belly before she’s able to enjoy tying her own shoes again. Congrats you two!!

Zara + Caden | Seattle Portrait Session

Posted in Families, Portraits

With the unusual abundance of that bright orange ball in the sky in the recent past, Amanda and her kids and I set out for the park to get some fun-in-the-winter-sun shots. I’m such a wimp now when it comes to the cold but we stayed plenty warm running around and by the time the cold finally did soak in, we trooped on over to the warmth of a nearby coffee shop. Check out the cuties!
