A few years back, I took a doula course (
click here for more information on what a doula is), and I was absolutely fascinated by the class discussions and lectures, a rather more grown up and less first-hand version of an interest in pregnancy than stuffing a pillow up my shirt, as mentioned in a previous post. Ursula invited me to be her photographer and doula for her second birth. It was my first time witnessing a new little life being born, and it was such a privilege to be there to support her and her family and to tell her birth story in photos. You did such a great job, Ursula; I’m so proud of you! Thank you for allowing me to share these images.

It’s no secret I love puppies. Ask my boyfriend Jake, and he’ll tell you that I exclaim, “I want a puppy!” no fewer than 10 times a week. By the way, I call ALL dogs puppies, even if they’re old enough to have gray fur on their snouts. Oscar the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is a people-loving, squirming, licking-every-face-that’s-close-enough, growling-at-nothing-in-particular, with a face that’s impossible not to love, kind of dog that feels tortured when forced to be more than 10 feet away from his people. During the maternity session with Jackie and Justin, he whined and whimpered until we included him. Given that he’s so dang cute, who could deny him that?! Photographing puppies is just so fun!
